Fire Fighting / EMT

This program is for students interested in being trained to the National Fire Protection Association’s standards for professional qualifications of fire fighters.  This training is required by area fire departments before entering structure fires or attacking car fires. Classes are taught by state certified fire instructors with standard materials used throughout the state by most fire departments.  There will be a combination of classroom and hands-on experience using fire fighting tools and equipment.  Reading and written work is also required.  Students will take the State of Maine Fire Fighter Written Certification Exam at the end of the course.  A practical Skills End Test may also be taken by students. Classes will meet both on the MCST campus and at regional fire stations and training areas.

This course follows the National Fire Pro Board standards for certification.  This certification is accepted in 34 states across the nation.  Current job outlook is very positive for new recruits due to an aging population.  An average entry level salary here in the State of Maine is $25,000 – $32,000 depending certifications held.
