Carpentry


This program is designed to introduce students to the skills necessary to succeed in the construction industry. Students that have successfully completed this program can expect to achieve the following:

  •       Gain Knowledge of Basic safety in construction
  •         10-hour OSHA card
  •         Proficiency it the use of hand and power tools used in construction
  •         Basic blueprint reading skills
  •         Basic employability skills

The hands-on portion of this program is where students learn the basics in carpentry. They will have the opportunity to be introduced to the following skills:

 

  •         Framing
  •         Exterior Finish
  •         Roofing
  •         Window and door installation
  •         Interior Finish

 

We will achieve this by building an 8 x 12 shed that mimics a full size house. This will allow students to be a part of the process of a frame-to-finish build. This program also features:

 

  •         Natural Center for Construction Education and Research (NCCER) curriculum
  •         Articulation agreements with Maine Community Colleges
  •         Strong ties with area employers

 

There will always be a need for qualified carpenters. At MCST, Students will learn the basics of the trade that will give them an employable skill that can be taken anywhere.
