Small Engine Technology offers students the basics that an entry-level technician needs to gain employment, along with a solid foundation required to turn a job into a career. The mark of a skilled technician is the ability to diagnose mechanical, fuel, and electrical problems, and to make repairs in a minimal amount of time. This requires problem-solving abilities along with a thorough knowledge of the use of shop manuals. Due to the increasing complexity of small engines in general, most employers prefer to hire technicians who graduate from formal training programs. This course of study provides a beginning to the formal training process.
At the discretion of the instructor, students are encouraged to bring in their own projects as long as they align with the curriculum and instructional goals.
