The Automotive-Technology program is designed as a two-year program where students that intend to pursue this trade are presented with the opportunity to learn basic knowledge and skills. This curriculum prepares students for employment directly after graduation and/or as a stepping- stone to post-secondary education at the community college level. The program is modeled after the National Automotive Technician Education Foundation (NATEF), a nationally recognized industry and education leader in automotive technology. Students learn the basics in Brakes, Steering & Suspension, Engine Performance, and Electricity/Electronics. The students will work with concepts in math, science, reading, and writing as it pertains to the contents of automotive studies.
The curriculum is based on the Basic Service Technician task lists set forth by the program's certifying organization NATEF. Students who are interested are offered the opportunity to sit for the NATEF exams at the end of their two years and leave the program with nationally recognized completion certificates in the areas the student successfully tested in.
