Rodney Brooks, a 2006 graduate of the Mid-Coast School of Technology, continues towards his goal of a career in professional motorsports. After attending the Bobby Isaac Motorsports School at Catawba Valley Community College in Hickory, North CArolina, Brooks was hired as a welder/fabricator for Fitzbradshaw Racing, located in Mooresville, NC. Brooks intensive course of study including, welding, fabricating, assembly, body hanging, paint and body, and over the wall pit crew as part of the hands on curriculum and all work was completed on real Nextel Cup Series cars. His previous two years at Mid-Coast School of Technology prepared him well for his endeavors at the North Carolina trade school, allowing him to stay one step ahead of his peers, he said.
Of late, Brooks will be part of the Leavitt Racing Components' booth at the Performance Racing Industry trade show Thursday through Saturday, Dec. 10-12, 2009 in Orlando, Florida. Brooks, a fabricator for Maine native Steve Leavitt, will build on of his newly-designed Super Late Model chassis. Brooks will assemble the chassis during the three day show and attendees will be able to watch the construction in a speciailly designed display booth. The chassis and other components will be raffled off at the end of the show. Brooks 10-year racing career started with Southern Maine Karting and includes seasons at Wiscasset Raceway, Speedway95, PASS Mods and Outlaws, Rolling Thunder Modifieds, and PASS South. He previously worked at Fitz Motorsports as a fabricator on the SuperCuts/Family Dollar team.
