Courtney Kilbreth, a Mid-Coast School of Technology (MCST) senior from Medomak Valley High School , has been awarded Career and Technical Education (CTE) Student of the Year honors. She attended the CTE Student of the Year Awards Ceremony at Lewiston Regional Technical Center on May 1 where she was awarded a $1,000 scholarship. Guest speakers for the event were Susan Gendron, Maine Education Commissioner, and U.S. Congressman Mike Michaud.
Courtney has attended MCST for the past two years…Medical Science last year and the Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) program this year. She has excelled and maintained a two-year grade average of 95. In the fall of 2010, Courtney will attend the University of Maine Fort Kent to pursue a nursing degree and become a Registered Nurse. After graduating from nursing school, she plans to continue her education and become a nurse practitioner.
Courtney has been active in her school and community. She has been a mentor for Big Brothers Big Sisters for three years and has committed to working with a child for one hour per week as part of the program. She has demonstrated her leadership as a mentor for new associates while working at T.J. Maxx and attended a Leadership Conference for the medical field in July 2009.
At MCST, Courtney is the President of SkillsUSA and organized several fundraisers such as the food drive, coin drive, and sale of MCST sweatshirts to help fund to cost to attend the Skills USA Competitions. She is a member of the National Technical Honor Society and served on the MCST Student Panel, which presented at all our sending schools in an effort to promote CTE programs at MCST.
