This program is designed to introduce students to the skills necessary to succeed in the construction industry. Students that have successfully completed this program can expect to achieve the following:
- Gain Knowledge of Basic safety in construction
- 10-hour OSHA card
- Proficiency it the use of hand and power tools used in construction
- Basic blueprint reading skills
- Basic employability skills
The hands-on portion of this program is where students learn the basics in carpentry. They will have the opportunity to be introduced to the following skills:
- Framing
- Exterior Finish
- Roofing
- Window and door installation
- Interior Finish
We will achieve this by building an 8 x 12 shed that mimics a full size house. This will allow students to be a part of the process of a frame-to-finish build. This program also features:
- Natural Center for Construction Education and Research (NCCER) curriculum
- Articulation agreements with Maine Community Colleges
- Strong ties with area employers
There will always be a need for qualified carpenters. At MCST, Students will learn the basics of the trade that will give them an employable skill that can be taken anywhere.
