Student Organizations at Mid-Coast School of Technology
The National Technical Honor Society is America’s highest award for excellence in career and technical education. Like its academic counterpart, the National Honor Society, the NTHS honors student achievement and leadership, promotes educational excellence, and enhances career opportunities. As a member, not only are you identified as representing excellence in career and technical education, but there are significant occupational opportunities made available for America’s top workforce education students. Students are nominated by their instructors and have to meet the criteria of community service, grade point average at both their sending high school and at Mid-Coast School of Technology.
SkillsUSA is a partnership of students, teachers and industry representatives, working together to ensure America has a skilled work force. It helps each student excel. SkillsUSA is an applied method of instruction for preparing America’s high performance workers in public career and technical programs. It provides quality education experiences for students in leadership, teamwork, citizenship and character development. It builds and reinforces self-confidence, work attitudes and communications skills. It emphasizes total quality at work-high ethical standards, superior work skills, life-long education, and pride in the dignity of work. SkillsUSA also promotes understanding of the free-enterprise system and involvement in community service.SkillsUSA programs include local and state competitions in which students demonstrate occupational and leadership skills. During SkillsUSA Maine Championships, more than 400 students compete in 62 occupational and leadership skill areas. Gold medalists from our state proceed to join more than 4,000 students to compete in the annual national-level SkillsUSA Championships.
