Joel Rowland

Marine Technology Instructor

Joel Rowland came to this program after 4 years of teaching an Exploratory Trades program and 15 years of professional work as a builder and owner/operator of a sailboat charter business on North Haven Island. He is a graduate of the Marine Systems program at the Landing School of Boatbuilding and Design, and a former Sea Program Course Director for the Hurricane Island Outward Bound School. He’s been a Coast Guard licensed Captain for 25 years and has ABYC certifications in Marine Systems and Marine Electrical.

Joel has worked as a mariner and Marine Tech in many different capacities in his decades-long professional life, from Trans-Atlantic sailing to offshore lobstering on the Gulf of Maine. He’s excited to help his students make the most of the opportunities available to them here in our great state and beyond as they learn about the diverse options available to them in the realm of the Marine Trades and Composite Construction.

When Joel is not at work he’s soaking up all of the outdoor goodness that the greater Penobscot Bay region has to offer with his wife, young kids and cattle dog.
